The electronics and energy operation features technology to support the information and communication industry and other areas that are expected to expand in the future.
Expertise in glass, chemicals and ceramics embodied in advanced technology in materials, processing, forming and surface finishing, give us tremendous resources for developing cutting-edge electronic components.
Projector Materials
- Reflectors: A strongly illuminating, stable reflector developed using AGC's original manufacturing technology for projectors, to offer stronger output, longer life, further downsizing, and reduced weight.
- Integrator Lenses: Given the increasing demand for high-quality appearance, AGC has responded to customer needs in a timely fashion by taking advantage of its ability to handle the full production cycle from mold design to coating.
- Cover Glass for LCD: Maintains clear images by preventing scratches on LCD panels and defocusing surface dust, and also increase transmission by controlling reflection. AGC has achieved clean coating on various types of substrates.

Digital Camera Materials
- Blue filters can be as thin as 0.2 mm and have contributed to the slimming down of digital cameras.
- Offering high quality and excellent durability, they are used in single-lens reflex cameras and other high-end products.

Optical Planar Devices
High-performance product that integrates several functions into a single part
AGC has used exclusive expertise to deposit organic multilayer thin-film on glass substrate (synthetic quartz glass). By forming several layers, we have been able to integrate multiple functions that formerly required several components into a single element.
- High productivity achieved by epoch-making fabrication process
In a process similar to the fabrication of semiconductor chips, several layers of thin-film are deposited on the synthetic quartz glass substrate. At the end of the process the substrate is sliced into individual parts. And that could achieve good productivity and low cost simultaneously.
- Powerful write-to-disk function
More powerful laser is needed when writing to disc. The element used for the optical pick up need higher optical efficiency. That is why AGC tuned the refractive indices of each organic and inorganic material, controlled the polarization state of light, carried out additional surface treatment, and implemented other technology to successfully ensure highly efficient use of light throughout the entire optical element.
- Application of organic planar device to two-wavelength optical pickup heads
AGC developed an element that can combine and diffract selectively the different wavelength used by DVD and CD devices. Our technology can compensate optical aberration that due to disk thicknesses difference in DVD and CD system and can also automatically compensate by detecting disc tilt.
Glass Substrates for HDDs
- Having committed for many years to the research and development of glass materials, circular processing, precision polishing, cleaning, and other processing, AGC provides HDD glass substrates that offer the following advantages:
1) Anticipating that its customers would adopt perpendicular magnetic recording technology in their manufacturing processes, AGC is utilizing high-strain point glass for its substrates. Hence, the company has the competitive advantage of processing glass substrates at higher temperatures than its peers are capable of.
2)To harden the glass, AGC has developed its own proprietary technology, unlike the commonly used chemical techniques. With this proprietary technology, AGC now can produce glass substrates with a high thermal resistance. This substrates can also maintain its strength even if it is thin.

Aspherical Glass Lens
- AGC offers aspherical glass mold lens products that meet the needs of customers in various fields.
- AGC will continue to pursue business, focusing on optical materials and lens processing, and respond quickly to customer needs.
